The Frenchie Jig Nymph Fly Pattern Tutorial

The Frenchie is not a new pattern by any means and from my research goes back years and years and years and years. The patterns has gained much popularity among competition anglers due to the effectiveness, durability, and time that it takes to tie. It can be tied in many different color combinations due to the vastness of dyes and materials available to fly tyers and anglers.

I generally have some in my box from sizes 14-18 in many different colors and variations. Changing the bead color or the ice dub can make the difference some days I have discovered. Tie up 3 in one color scheme, change the wire or bead color or hot spot and tie up three more. Pretty soon you will have a whole box of Frenchies.

Due to the Tungsten bead, I generally fish this as a point fly and have several tags coming off further up the leader. I have also fished this as a dropper, in the smaller bead sizes, on lakes under a hopper, mouse or popcorn gurgler.

Tie some up and fish them, they work.
